Item Description...

At her friend Ivy's behest, Lady Emily Ashton reluctantly agrees to attend a party at the sprawling English country estate of a man she finds odious. But the despised Lord Fortescue is not to be her greatest problem. Kristiana von Lange, an Austrian countess once linked romantically with Emily's fiancÉ, the debonair Colin Hargreaves, is a guest also. And a tedious evening turns deadly when their host is found murdered, and his protÉgÉ, Robert Brandon—Ivy's husband—is arrested for the crime.

Determined to right a terrible wrong, Emily embarks on a quest that will lead her from London's glittering ballrooms to Vienna's sordid backstreets—and into a game of wits with a notorious anarchist. But putting Colin in deadly peril may be the price for exonerating Robert—forcing the intrepid Emily to bargain with her nemesis, the Countess von Lange, for the life of her fiancÉ.

Love Lady Emily  Dec 13, 2009
I learned about Tasha Alexander while looking for another author (whom I never did find). I have found her Lady Emily series very enjoyable and am looking forward to great reading from this author

Impossible to Put Down  Nov 3, 2009
A few months after the conclusion of "A Poisoned Season", Tasha Alexander's heroine Lady Emily Ashton is back in the third installment of the Lady Emily mystery series. This one is slightly different from the previous two books, and while it's a whirlwind of action, it's also difficult to put down.

Emily Ashton and her fiance Colin Hargreaves are at Lord Fortescue's home for a weekend shooting party when their host turns up dead. Robert Brandon, Fortescue's political protege and the husband of Emily's best friend Ivy, is quickly jailed for the murder. Emily knows he is innocent, but proving it is another matter. Determined to clear Brandon's name, she journeys to Vienna with her friend Cecile Du Lac to uncover what may have gotten Fortescue killed.

Upon arriving in the Austrian capital, Emily is quickly embroiled in a game of cat-and-mouse involving a British spy, an anarchist, and Colin's ex-lover, the Countess von Lange. How will this vast group help her figure out what happened to Lord Fortescue and clear Robert Brandon's name? Why is one of Her Majesty's spies following her around town? Is her fiance in danger? And how does this all relate to the apparent suicide of the heir to the Austrian throne?

A bit more complex than the first two Lady Emily mysteries, "A Fatal Waltz" is more serious than its predecessors, containing themes that don't deal with classical art. This one is about preventing a war. And you won't be able to put it down.

Didn't capture my attention  Oct 29, 2009
I had high hopes for this book. I love the time period and mysteries, however, when I sat down to read this - I found it quite dull. I tried to like it, but couldn't get past the first couple of chapters. I put it down and never picked it back up again.

Not up to par  Apr 21, 2009
Good book but not as engrossing as 1 or 2. Kinda weak middle where it seems the author had a hard time fleshing out the story. Wrapped up the story well.

Well written and researched but uniked just the same  Apr 5, 2009
I waited for this book with much anticipation but was greatly disappointed.

It was clear that the writer did a great deal of research, but unfortunately, all of those facts ultimately had very little to do with the actual mystery.

This book was a series of left turns, dead ends and fillers. The sub-plot involving Jeremy was vague and distracting. The romantic element was lacking.

If you are going to write a book featuring a romantic couple, why spend so much time dwelling on the great love one partner had for someone else? I found the unrelenting focus on the love betweenColin and countess to be one of the most off putting aspects of this book.

Also, I found a disconnect in the relationship between Colin and Emily. I did not feel the love at all. Colin did not seemed overly concerned for or interested in Emily. What man in love would approve of his finacee traveling and closely associated with a man he knew to be in love with her and associate with people he knew to be murderers?

After the experience with this installment, I won't be waitng with bated breath for the next one.
