Item Description...
Product Description Listen to Me, I Am Still Somebody introduces the Alzheimer's disease sufferer to their caregivers and the community at large. Alzheimer's disease is a devastating disease process, yet the reader will laugh and perhaps cry a little, but begin to understand. Although this is an incurable disease, the reader will be given hope and begin to heal. Family caregivers are not the only ones affected by Alzheimer's. The professional caregiver, medical personnel, police, emergency services, and our community at large will find themselves interacting with the Alzheimer's disease sufferer and their families. This book is meant for all of them. Armed with a better understanding of the disease process, communication techniques, and behavior management skills the reader will be able to create the specialized environment needed by the Alzheimer's disease sufferer anywhere. Strengthened by a better understanding of stress management and how to begin the grieving process, along with the community resources waiting to help, the reader will learn that caring for themselves will protect both the caregiver and the Alzheimer's sufferer. Readers will find that this is not a clinical manuscript. The information is written in a conversational manner. Sandy Kehoe's method of delivery has helped so many people understand what is really happening to the disease sufferer and what interventions work. The reader will learn that the disease sufferer has so much of themselves still intact--perhaps a younger version of themselves, but still an important person worthy of respect and dignity and one who has the right to maintain their self worth.

 | A comprehensive resource in a small package Jun 4, 2008 |
| I found this book to be a quick read, clearly written, and easily understandable on a subject that can be extremely complicated. Sandy gives the reader a better understanding of memory loss, Alzheimer's disease, and other dementias with wonderful tips, suggestions, and interventions for caregivers, families, and professionals. Her understanding and compassion for both the patient and the caregiver is remarkable, and is evident throughout the book. This is a comprehensive resource in a small package. | | | | Kudos to Kehoe May 9, 2008 |
This is the second time in my life I've had Alzheimer's Disease take over a family member's life. I purchased this book for my brother, whose wife has the disease. On many occasions I've assisted with her care, so purchased the book for him and myself. It has been a comfort to us. Many good suggestions to implement, but also acknowledging the fact that we are doing a lot of the right things too. She is so right about the caregiver insisting he can do it all, but can't. He hasn't yet come to this realization.
It is the most well written book in this field that I've read, and I've read many. Clearly written, easily understood, as if in conversation. Sandra is extremely well informed regarding this dreaded disease.

| As a professional that works directly with patients and caregivers suffering from Alzheimer's disease/dementia and other memory impairments, I found Sandra's style perfectly suited for my clients. She is a wonderful author and extremely knowledgeable. I highly recommend this book! | | | | Very Helpful information Apr 11, 2008 |
I found this book to be very helpful. It was easy to understand, and I felt like the author was talking to me. She understands the patient and the caregiver. I have lent this book to friends, and they all felt the book gave them some hope in an almost hopeless situation.
Thank you,

I have been a health care provider for many years and have seen Sandy give presentations on Alzheimer's Disease. I didn't think she could top her presentation but this book is as entertaining as her presentation. I have recommended it to everyone. Sandy's understanding of this disease is so obvious in the way she presents the material and now to have it to refer to is perfect! This is a must for anyone dealing with this disease!
