Item Description... Overview After nursing a broken engagement with Jane Austen novels and Absolut, Courtney Stone wakes up and finds herself not in her Los Angeles bedroom or even in her own body, but inside the bedchamber of a woman in Regency England. Not only is Courtney stuck in another woman's life, she is forced to pretend she actually is that woman; and despite knowing nothing about her, she manages to fool even the most astute observer. But not even her level of Austen mania has prepared Courtney for the chamber pots and filthy coaching inns of nineteenth-century England, let alone the realities of being a single woman who must fend off suffocating chaperones, condomless seducers, and marriages of convenience. This looking glass Austen world is not without its charms, however, with journeys to Bath and London, balls in the Assembly Rooms, and the enigmatic Mr. Edgeworth. But when Courtney's borrowed brain serves up memories that are not her own, the ultimate identity crisis ensues. Will she ever get her real life back? Doesshe even want to?

 | No idea how this was published... Nov 2, 2009 |
| I'm even more amazed that I finished this. It's possibly one of the most annoying books I've ever completed. The author's voice is so pretentious that it makes the book altogether unbearable. The books is not intelligently written...it just thinks it is. Also, as others have mentioned, the heroine is not likable. | | | | "Jane Austen" does not belong in the title Oct 2, 2009 |
| I do NOT want 21st Century profanity and promiscuity in my Jane Austen/Regency Era literature! I love Jane Austen. I love science fiction, historical fiction, and especially time travel. I love the idea of a 21st Century woman suddenly finding herself in a good Jane Austen/Regency Era plot. But it is apparently too much to ask for a dignified, likable 21st Century heroine. For this reason I also hated the "Lost in Austen" DVD. Am I wrong to think that most of us love Jane Austen novels because we want to immerse ourselves in the dignified behavior and dialogue? | | | | Worth your time, but not your money Sep 25, 2009 |
I really wanted to like this book. I thought it'd be different than most Jane Austen-lite fare, but it turned out to be just another romance novel with a sci-fi element of time travel thrown in. Actually, I wouldn't know how to classify this book, and in this case that's not a good thing. I liked the main character, even when I didn't agree with some of the choices she made. All of the characters stand out in their own way; Rigler is a good writer in that respect. But there was absolutely no tension between them, since I got the feeling while reading this that Courtney would eventually return to her life.
I was really disappointed with the ending - unsatisfying and rather too quick. Also, the specific explanation for time travel used in this book really didn't make sense. This was a major distraction for me. I've been trying to read more Austenesque stories lately since I love her books, but this one wasn't particularily encouraging. Read it, but only if you can check it out from a nearby libray. | | | | Good stuff Sep 9, 2009 |
| Pretty good. I enjoyed this book, it combines the past with the present perfectly. | | | | Bad Aug 29, 2009 |
| The main character is annoying and unlikable, which could be tolerated if the writing were any good. It isn't. | | | Write your own review about Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict (Premier Romance Series)
