Item Description...
Product Description A Journey to the Son is a masterful memoir of self-discovery and the power of family. The true-life tale of a ''motherless-daughter's'' extraordinarily bumpy road to motherhood, Lauren Braddock Havey's memoir, A Journey to the Son follows Lauren and her husband Jim as they make the brave decision to go through the in vitro process and the white-knuckle journey that ensues. Readers will be touched and united by her experience of what is a decidedly challenging journey, one that is almost tragically derailed (by an amniotic fluid embolism, an extremely rare and most-often fatal obstetric emergency), but which ends happily and triumphantly a year after the baby's birth. A Journey to the Son transcends the genre of reproduction literature. Lauren's engaging wit and honesty pulls the reader in, making her story more than a memoir of fertility treatments, complications, and trauma--Lauren's story is a celebration of life.

 | A Journey to the Son Nov 23, 2009 |
Like many women these days, Lauren waited to start a family. At thirty something that meant endless trips to the fertility clinic and the possibilities that adoption would be her only option. While she did manage to conceive and give birth to a healthy son, the process was filled with some pretty scary challenges.
A Journey to the Son recalls Lauren's highs and lows as she readied to become a mother. Like every one of us, she worried and questioned her abilities to take on such an important job. Unfortunately, Lauren also spent much of her pregnancy hoping not to miscarry. Then, when she did give birth, she felt the horror of our worst fear- no cry. In the process, Lauren almost died herself.
I found A Journey to the Son quite inspirational. Sometimes, the worrying and the planning takes over and makes us forget to just enjoy our children. We don't have to be Super Mom, we just have to love them.
