 | If it's written by Karin Kallmaker... Sep 7, 2007 |
| I ordered 18th and Castro without paying attention to its BAD status (it had "Kallmaker" on it, so I had to have it) :-) It was such a surprise--the premise, the setting, the different characters and their relationships in each of the stories came together to make a great novel. "Tick Tock" was the most well-written and touching short story that I think I have ever read, and even the stories that were essentially "sex please" were about believable characters and scenarios. Erotica is not my first choice of reading, but I am so glad to have stumbled into reading this one! | | | | Erotica to share Jan 6, 2007 |
| I enjoyed this book because, while it consisted of individual peoples actions in each chapter it read as a full story with linking sections to bring it together. I reread the best chapters every so often. If you enjoy lesbian erotica, this is a great read. | | | | Just hot enough Nov 4, 2006 |
As with many of Kallmaker's books, this one has just enough romance and plenty of heat to keep the pages turning. Definately one to add to your library. | | | | Can you be all things to all people? Aug 29, 2006 |
This book, part of the "Bella by Night" series (which means it rates high on the erotica scale), is a book of short series connected by an address: 18th and Castro. All the scenarios are different. I found some of the stories to be very good; others silly and the rest kinky.
Save your money and buy one of Kallmaker's earlier romances. I recommend "Touchwood", "Watermark", "In Every Port", "Wild Things" and "Making Up For Lost Time". | | | | Not What You'd Expect... Aug 24, 2006 |
I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting into when I ordered this book. Some friends said it was great, others said it was terrible. In fact, I didn't even know it was a series of inter-related stories until I started reading. Not generally a fan of anthologies or short stories, I have to admit to thoroughly enjoying this newest offering from Kallmaker.
There is a story in her for everyone to enjoy. There is the jilted former lover who is asked to teach her ex's new lover how to please her in bed. There is the disintegrating lover who is suffering from MS. There are the young lovers who never quite make it to the party. There is the new couple, who don't know they're a couple yet. There is the couple who gets stuck to the bed with handcuffs. There is all that and everything in between.
Kallmaker masterfully transitions from one story to the next by including elements of many of the stories throughout the book. One example, the "mobile" lover from the handcuff story goes next door to get a key from her neighbor. The next story is about the neighbor and her lover trying to have a romantic evening, despite the interruptions.
What a great book! Recommended accompaniments are Witches' Brew and a caramel apple...
