Popular television host Jeff Corwin takes readers on a gripping journey around the world to meet the animals threatened by extinction
It's no secret that our planet is in crisis. Environmental threats such as climate change, pollution, habitat loss, and land degradation threaten the survival of thousands of plant and animal species. In 100 Heartbeats, Jeff Corwin provides an urgent portrait of the wildlife teetering on the brink.
From the forests slipping away beneath the stealthy paws of the Florida panther, to the giant panda's plight to climb ever higher in the mountains of China, Corwin takes you on a global tour to witness firsthand the critical state of our natural world. Along the way, he shares inspiring stories of battles being waged and won by the conservationists on the front lines of defense. The race to save the planet's most endangered wildlife is under way. Every heartbeat matters.

 | Amazing Book Mar 29, 2010 |
| I have always loved Jeff Corwin and this book has cemented him as an amazing author in my opinion. In 100 Heartbeats, he introduces you to endangered animals all over the world. Not just the ones you can think of off the top of your head, but those animals that aren't always thought or cared about. He does an amazing job of painting a picture for the reader with his descriptions of the animals and the cool places that he has visited. The amount of research that was done was also incredible. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves animals and cares what will happen to them in the future. Chelsea, OSU Comp Student 2010. | | | | The title of this book is misleading Mar 26, 2010 |
Unless I missed something, the title of this book is misleading, since it does not (from what I read) specifically discuss 100 people who have been involved in the battle to save our most endangered species. Also, my pre-publication copy did not have many high quality photos at all, which is very disappointing. | | | | Educational and thought-provoking ... Mar 14, 2010 |
| I didn't know that much about Jeff Corwin when I received this book. I thought he was one of those lightweight, good-looking talking heads that you see on TV, and expected the book to be pretty run-of-the-mill. To my surprise, I found a well-written, well researched, thought-provoking and educational book that just happened to have some beautiful pictures in the middle! Best of all, the book is written in a manner that's entertaining enough to hold the interest of my teenager, but in-depth enough to satisfy the science skeptic in me. We both learned new things in reading this book, and we had more than one discussion about topics explored in it - to me, that's a book that definitely deserves my four-star recommendation. I would have given this book five stars if he had presented a bit more depth about what might be done now, before it's too late. There's a lot of background info, and great explanations about what the issues are, but not quite enough discussion about what we need to do next. Resources need to be re-allocated, yes, but that alone isn't going to solve these problems. Still, Corwin's not the only naturalist struggling to find answers to these very complex issues - I wouldn't let the fact that he doesn't have any new answers to the problems stop you from buying and enjoying this terrific book about Earth's most endangered species! | | | | Animal lover Mar 9, 2010 |
| Great book, great read, Jeff Corwin is truly a great vessel to get the word out about animal conservation. With colorful narratives about first hand accounts with these endangered species I couldn't put the book down. I recommend to anybody interested in the conservation of these animals in the "Hundred Heartbeats Club" as Corwin so eloquently puts it. | | | | Touching, heartfelt, amazing... Feb 25, 2010 |
I've always been a huge fan of Jeff Corwin; his combination of intelligence, passion and wisdom - combined with excellent and engaging delivery - make him one of the most entertaining and informative personalities on television. (Of course it doesn't hurt that he's adorably cute!) All of these traits (save for the good looks) come through clearly in this book, a perfect extension of Jeff as a person as well as the work he does.
100 Heartbeats was a pleasure to read; touching, informative and entertaining. I learned so much about the animals on our planet, but even more so about myself and the other humans who have seemingly ignored the fact that this 'rock' is home to many, many, many creatures - great and small - whom we have (perhaps unwillingly) taken control over and are therefore responsible for.
The book isn't overly heavy and Jeff doesn't preach; he explains and illustrates through words and stories. It's an excellent read for young adults, old adults, anyone who cares about animals and our planet. | | | Write your own review about 100 Heartbeats: The Race to Save Earth's Most Endangered Species
