Publishers Description
Pets may not have words, but they can communicate. Paying attention to an animal’s cues—a joyful bark, a scary growl, a swishing tail—can help a child understand what the animal is “saying” and what an appropriate response might be. That’s part of what this book is about. But mostly it’s about showing children how to love pets gently—because pets are for loving, after all. Kids learn that teasing isn’t nice, that they can choose to be kind to animals, and that if you want to touch someone else’s pet, there’s one important rule you should know: Ask the owner first! A special section for adults includes ideas for teaching kindness to animals, activities, and discussion starters. |

 | Simple but straight forward Dec 1, 2008 |
| This is a simple book to talk about how to treat your pets. We had been having some problems with out toddler and our dog and this book was suggested to us. We have read it a few times and my daughter seems to get the point of the descriptions, but I'm not sure it has changed any behavior yet, but I think it is laying a good ground work for the future. The pictures are bright and cheery and age appropriate. | | | | Excellent Book Jul 5, 2008 |
| I bought this book for my two year old son. We have a dog, and he started getting rough with her. He LOVES this book!!!! He always goes and gets it and wants us to read it to him. He loves the page with the animal sounds, and he learned to do them all. He has not hit the dog recently, but still tries to sit on her. But overall, I think this is an excellent choice, and very cute book! | | | | Watch out Diezel Apr 5, 2008 |
| My child has special needs. We had great luck with the hands are not for hitting book so when I saw this one I knew Diezle, our golden retriever would appreciate it ! Well it did not work out in his favor ! I am sorry to report that my son loved reading this book but was compelled to pull the dogs tail even more immediatly after reading the book, every time ! I think it is well written but perhaps not for ever childs mind. We have since donated the book to our school's library. | | | | Great Toddler book Jan 12, 2007 |
