Knowing the 5 S's even before we brought our baby home was a blessing. He seems to be a pretty easy going baby on his own, but using the 5 S's has made it all the much better. Swaddling and Shhshhing seem to work best. He's also crazy for music and my singing to him. But knowing these tips before you go into dealing with a baby who might cry, was an awesome help.

I heard about this method while I was in an infant safety class before my daughter was born. I then saw the author at a baby expo and was amazed in the 30 minutes he was talking and showing his method. I immediatly came home and ordered this DVD and watched with my husband. I think this is a must watch! We used the 4 S's from day one and on not one occasion did they not work. As a newborn, if our daughter would get upset, my husband would lay out the swaddle blanket, and before he even got the second triangle of her, she stopped crying. She was such a good sleeper and I guarentee that was for the swaddleing. I never knew about the effect that the shushing would have, but that worked wonders as well. If you have a really fussy baby, there is also a CD by this author with white noise that helps in the most extreme circumstances (I only had to use it once but a friend of mine said it was perfect).

This DVD is a MUST for new moms and dads! The book is good, but the DVD actually SHOWS you how and the results Dr. Karp gets using the methods he describes. Encourage all new parents to check it out!

Just before my 1st grandchild was born, a friend recommended "The Happiest Baby on the Block". When my grandson was born the hospital showed the DVD to my daughter. We bought a copy and put the techniques into immediate practice. I was absolutely amazed - it works like magic. Now, whenever I go to a baby shower, this DVD, a swaddle wrap and the CD "Growing Minds with Music: Traditional Lullabies" are my very special gift to the expectant mother.
