Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Very informative, very easy to read and explain to youth Mar 15, 2010 |
| This is a wonderful book to present to any youth group. There are great points to explain and discuss. | | | | Wonderful Information but tone is harsh Jan 2, 2010 |
I purchased the book for my 17 year old daughter and browsed through it before giving it to her. From a parents perspective I liked what I saw - Christian teachings that are true and helpful from a life experience perspective. My daughter began reading the book the day that I gave it to her and agreed that although the information was good, the tone was dictatorial and lacked the feeling that there would be love and forgiveness for making mistakes. I applaud the authors for writing this much needed book but the tone needs to be gentler and more loving and understanding when trying to reach today's youth. | | | | Universal desire intentions Dec 23, 2009 |
| The title refers to "young black women"; however, the information is useful to all young people, male and female, regardless of color. There is a strong slant toward Christian teachings, but don't let that deter you because the basic elements of right and wrong run through almost all religions, and that is what you will find here. The book offers universal words of caution and encouragement that we would like to believe are always passed along from parent to child. Clearly, some young people have missed out on that. When they get off to a bad start, making unwise decisions, they further stack the deck against themselves. Often, they do not recognize "cause and effect" until it is too late. There are some mistakes from which you can recover. From others, there is no return. Further, people of color and females are still discriminated against in this society; thus, the author has focused on this vulnerable population. He identifies certain types of high-risk and ill-advised behaviors that can lead to disaster, explains why these are not good choices, and offers alternatives. I purchased this book as a Christmas gift to a great-niece. Therefore, I will wait a few weeks to get her assessment of the book and add to this review. | | | Write your own review about 7 Things Young Black Women Do to Mess Up Their Lives: And How to Avoid Them ... with a Word to Parents
