 | Disappointed Jan 2, 2008 |
I am sorry to say that I was rather disappointed by this book. I was excited by the concept: how cool would it be to have a mystery book that teaches science concepts?? But, the science concepts are mostly at the end of the book (and not mixed in, as I expected) and are quite a stretch (in terms of educational value) even for elementary school age kids (i.e. the stories supposedly teach genetics because they use the terms "blue eyes" and "pattern baldness"). When you add in the fact that it is written poorly (though it's actually rather funny to read aloud because it has such unintentionally funny choices of words!), the advantage of "process skills" is nothing more than it would be from just reading any other (better written) mystery story.
This may be appropriate for elementary school, but the characters are older (college and adult) and the stories might get a bit scary for them. | | | | Great Creative and Entertaining Book Jun 13, 2007 |
| This is an excellent book. I thoroughly enjoyed learning science by reading the book's creative mystery stories and by carrying out some of the experiments. The mystery stories are suspenseful and entertaining as the reader acts like a detective to gather evidence (data) to solve the crimes (problems) using the book's creative problem-solving model. | | | Write your own review about Develop Critical Thinking Skills, Solve a Mystery, Learn Science: Creative Science Using Two Mystery Stories
