Item Description...
Product Description This guide introduces readers to Jewish neighbourhoods, historical sites, kosher restaurants, synagogues, and ancient monuments throughout South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Frank brings to life the vibrant Jewish communities and rich histories in these areas, perhaps surprising those readers unfamiliar with Jewish influences to the south of the United States. This book covers it all, from Brazil and its decisive impact on the origins of American Jewry to Puerto Rico, the largest Jewish community in the Caribbean; from Mexico and the story of how its Jewish population predates that of the US to Argentina and the Jewish cowboys of the pampa. This is the perfect companion for those seeking their roots, for those searching for places where relatives and friends lived, or for those simply looking to enrich their travels to this beautiful region.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Good information, poor editing May 24, 2006 |
| We took this book with us to Argentina -- it was helpful. Very informative about history of Jewish communities, but poor editing (repetition of prior descriptions, for example) make reading this book less enjoyable than it should be. | | | | history and travel Mar 9, 2006 |
| More than half of this book is devoted to history and a fascinating history it is! I didn't know that there was an Inquisition in Peru where heretics were burned or that synagogues in St. Thomas predate those in the U.S. Frank gives practical info also such as the names and addresses of Jewish communities and synagogues throughout the region, kosher restaurants and preferred hotels. Good armchair reading even if you never visit Argentina opr Cuba. | | | Write your own review about A Travel Guide to the Jewish Caribbean and South America
