Item Description...
Product Description "Ka-Ka-Ska-Ska" ("Headwaters to the Gulf" -- in a kayak) is a very entertaining story of four friends' adventure down the Mississippi River. The expedition was not a scheme to fulfill a lifelong fantasy of man against nature or even an attempt to satisfy an unruly midlife itch, but simply the result of an impulsive decision over a cup of coffee. With little thought to detailed planning, the foursome strikes out to conquer the third largest river in the world in kayaks. The chronological travelogue covers the highlights as they paddle through uninhabited wilderness and along the banks of river towns. This is not another boring guide book on how to paddle or where to paddle nor is it just a narrative of a sole expedition. Instead, the reader discovers a blend of colorful accounts of other paddling trips and a bit of history -- all seasoned with humor. Anyone interested in the outdoors and/or travel who enjoys the lighthearted approach will love this book.

 | An Astounding Journey Nov 23, 2009 |
What a wonderful journey and this book made me feel like I was right there with them. I read it cover to cover and didn't want it to end. The logistics and planning necessary to paddle kayaks from the source of the Mississippi, all the way to the Gulf, was nothing short of astounding. You've got to have a sense of humor to attempt a trip like this and it comes out in the pages of this thoroughly entertaining travelogue. | | | | Adventure, Humor and More! Nov 19, 2009 |
| A very entertaining book about a multi-year attempt to travel down the entire length of the Mississippi via kayak. Part journal, part story-telling with good use of humor and appropriate famous quotations to illustrate the authors various points. Of course it does help that the trip was highly adventurous! It does take a while to find out the meaning of the title and, if you aren't a kayaker, it may take a few pages to get into the style of the book - but do read it all, its worthwhile. | | | | Enjoyable reading Nov 18, 2009 |
| The barometer of a good book for personally is this: "Do I want to continue reading and see what is around the next corner or chapter in this case or wait"? With Ka-Ka-Ska-Ska I felt as if I was part of the journey along with Lewis and crew. I was captivated. The book contains wonderful humor, acts of kindness, courage, or as some would tell the crew,"are you crazy" One part I thought blended well was quotations of people, some famous, and some everyday, which tied in well with the previous sentence or paragraph. Thank you for taking the time to share in your travels Mr. Lewis. After all, it is only a journey if you take it. | | | | Entertaining and inspiring book Nov 4, 2009 |
| I was prepared for an entertaining read, but I wasn't prepared for what a spiritual/emotional feeling I got from reading this book. The kindness of strangers along the route made me so happy (even the ones who thought the guys were crazy!). I had just finished a book called The Christmas Bus by Melody Carlson. The book is based on Hebrews 13: 1-2 (showing hospitality to strangers for they may actually be angels.) The two books together put me in such a good mood. My eyes will be open for a chance to show hospitality to strangers. Truly inspiring! | | | Write your own review about "Ka-Ka-Ska-Ska": ("Headwaters to the Gulf" in a kayak)
